The school of a 13-year-old girl who died after falling from a ski lift during a school trip last year has unveiled a plaque in her memory.
Close family, friends and a small number of staff gathered at Guru Nanak Sikh Academy in Springfield Road, Hayes, for a brief memorial service for former pupil Poonam Bhattal.
The service, on Friday, July 11, coincided with the teenager's birthday.
A photograph of Poonam, described by her parents as the perfect daughter, was engraved into the marble plaque, attached to a wall at the school.
Manjeet Bhogal, head of admin at the school said: "It is a beautiful tribute to a much missed, lovely girl."
A prayer was said before the plaque was unveiled and balloons were released by Poonam's family members in celebration of what would be her 15th birthday.
Poonam died on February 22, 2013, when she slipped off a chair lift and fell 20 feet onto the piste during a morning ski lesson in the Claviere ski resort in Italy.
She quickly got up and told classmates from Guru Nanak Sikh Academy: "Im fine, Im fine, I promise," but died 20 minutes later. A post mortem found that Poonam suffered a small laceration of the right superior pulmonary vein in the fall, which led to fatal internal bleeding.
Poonam's parents and siblings, including her six-year-old sister Shayna, as well as teachers and friends paid their own heartfelt tributes to the popular girl.
At the time, her mother and father said: "Poonam was a beautiful person, a little cheeky at times, but never failing to smile and making us and others smile with her."
