CAMPAIGNERS hoping to save Harefield ’s Medi Parc site from developers are still waiting to hear its fate.

A decision was due in September on whether the land, off Hill End Road, could be designated as a village green.

A planning inquiry was held for two weeks in March and further four days in May, at Hillingdon Civic Centre in Uxbridge High Street, but the decision has still to be handed down by the independent Planning Inspectorate. It is now expected next month.

Developer Comer Homes want to build 80 flats on the land, and it has been sealed off since July 2010, preventing its use as a dog walking and rambling destination for local people.

It was this, ‘traditional’ access that campaigners used to argue for village green status.

Harefield Tenants’ and Residents’ Association opposes the plans for the flats, and hopes that by proving that it has been used freely by the public for the last 10 years, they will be have it legally declared a village green.

A sub-committee of the association, called Save the Medi Parc, assisted by town planner Nigel Agg, who lives in the village, faced off with Comer’s lawyers at the enquiry.

Meanwhile, in Eastcote, campaigners hoping to prevent Ruislip Hockey Club building a second artificial turf pitch on Pinn Meadows are considering using the same tactic.
