James DeGale is being courted by former world champion Barry McGuigan as the Olympic hero's future manager.

McGuigan has reportedly texted the Dale Youth boxer a number of times with a view to a chat about the Beijing gold medalist's expected launch into the professional ranks.

However, the Irishman, who won the world featherweight title at QPR's Loftus Road 23 years ago, might have to get in line behind those who want to show Degale the money.

Promoter Dennis Hobson looks after former IBF light-heavyweight champion Clinton Woods and was a constant presence in Beijing when Degale was on his way to the gold medal.

And a source close to the Olympic champion admitted the calls have been flooding in.

The source said: "There were Americans out there as well making the 'we'll-make-you-rich' noises.

"Barry has been texting Chunky, and I believe promoter Mick Hennessy had a word even before he went out to China. He already has John O'Donnell, who was at Dale, but he's just one of many."
