HILLINGDON residents have been given wishes for the coming new year courtesy of Mayor of London Boris Johnson.
Mr Johnson, who came to power in May, has had an eventful few months and many of his policies have had an effect on the borough, including banning alcohol on the Underground.
In his message to the capital he says: "Folks I'm not going to hide it from you, 2008 has been a huge year for me, because it was the time I acceded to what I think is the greatest job in the world, the Mayor of London.
"I want to thank everybody in London who accidentally or deliberately had a hand in that success.
"But 2008 was of huge importance also for our city, because it was the moment when we took over this Olympic flag and our duty to host that great celebration of sporting achievement in 2012.
"I have no doubt with energy application and dynamism we can not only get through the current recession, but emerge stronger and deliver for the rest of the world the greatest Games there has ever been.
"So I am looking forward very much to 2009 and I hope you are too. Have a Happy New Year."
