Boris Johnson took the Tube to Uxbridge this morning (Monday) for his ‘big announcement’.

Hillingdon Council leader Ray Puddifoot and a small group of journalists met the mayor at Uxbridge station as he stepped off a Piccadilly Line train at about 9.50am, before heading off to the civic centre to outline his and Mr Puddifoot’s vision for a ‘Heathrow Suburb’ - a vast mixed development of housing, industry, retail and leisure space on the site of Heathrow Airport should it be denied a third runway and ever face closure or gradual decline.

Hillingdon Council’s report, ‘Heathrow Park: A Better Future For Heathrow’, outlines two ‘garden city’ alternatives to replace the airport, one of which includes the provision of a new west London airport.
