A new free school has found a permanent home after months of uncertainty.

Founders and supporters of Marylebone Boys’ School have been working with Westminster Council and the Education Funding Agency to find a long-term home for nearly 18 months.

The school is unable to confirm the location of its permanent home, which it is planned to open by September 2016, until legal documents are completed. However, a letter to parents said it would be within three quarters of a mile of Old Marylebone Town Hall .

Pupils will join Marylebone Boys’ this September in a temporary site in the former College of North West London in Priory Park Road off Kilburn High Road.

Headteacher designate Richard Ardron thanked Westminster Council and the Department for Education as well as parents of prospective students for their help in finding a permanent home.

Schools Minister Lord Nash said: “I am delighted Marylebone Boys’ School has secured a permanent site and is therefore on track to open as planned this September.

“It is already proving an extremely popular choice for parents, with three applications per place. This is due to the strong vision of the trust whose members bring to bear an exceptional range of skills and experience in business and finance, as well as educational rigour.”

Council leader Philippa Roe said: “This school will add to the already excellent education facilities that Westminster offers to its residents. I am convinced that the school will offer an academically rigorous education with high expectations of standards.”

A group of volunteers set up Marylebone Boys’ with the support of David McFadden, head of the London Oratory, and Elizabeth Phillips, former head of St Marylebone CofE School. Both of whom will be on the school’s governing body.

The school is a boys only, non-selective secondary school and will open with 120 year seven boys, growing to a maximum of 840 pupils.
