WHILST Boris Johnson's plan to construct an airport in the Thames estuary is very admirable and would, quite clearly, remove the threat of further expansion at Heathrow, surely there is a much simpler solution.
There is a ready built aerodrome on the toe of Kent, that being Manston, which has a main
runway capable of accepting Boeing 747s as well as many other types of larger passenger aircraft.
This is simply waiting for further development and would most likely have less of an effect on any residential areas in that part of Kent as would a third runway and 6th terminal at Heathrow on the already plagued residents of West London.
Not only can it accept the aircraft I have mentioned but the aerodrome is not far from the London (Victoria) main line to Ramsgate and it would only require a spur to the site to provide a rail facility similar to that at Stansted.
Also development would help to reduce the high level of unemployment in the locality.
How about it Boris?
