Man stabbed as violence breaks out across Hounslow

Police appeal for witnesses after 25-year-old is stabbed four times in the back near Hounslow town centre

A MAN was stabbed in the back four times as violence flared across Hounslow at the weekend.

The 25-year-old was stabbed in Strafford Road, Hounslow, just outside the town centre, on Saturday night.

Police were called to the scene at about 11.10pm and the man was taken to a west London hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

There have been no arrests yet over the stabbing, which was the most serious of a string of fights across the borough during the weekend.

Hounslow Police were called to 10 reports of ABH (actual bodily harm), four of the more serious GBH (grievous bodily harm) and 17 more minor common assaults between last Friday and Sunday night.

Incidents included:

* a man was bottled in Station Road, Hounslow, near the recently-opened Platform 3 pub, at about 3am on Saturday morning, leaving him with a large gash to his face

* a 54-year-old man was taken to hospital with head injuries after an assault in London Road, just to the east of Hounslow High Street, on Saturday, just after 5pm. Three teenagers were arrested and bailed in connection with the attack

A man was also stabbed several times in the buttocks last Thursday, October 31, in Beechen Cliff Way, Isleworth, at about 10.50pm.

DI Tom Dahri put the flurry of violence down to a mixture of darker nights after the clocks went back, coupled with celebrations for Diwali, Halloween and Fireworks Night. "It's been a challenging and busy weekend," he said.

Hounslow Central neighbourhood inspector Richard Smith said police always expected a slight spike in crime at this time of year but extra officers had been in place to meet the demand.

He told the Chronicle there were an extra 14 officers on the borough's streets during Friday and Saturday nights, and additional staff would also be on patrol during Fireworks Night.

However, one resident, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed an officer at the scene of the Station Road bottling had told him police were badly stretched and were unable to attend some incidents. "Crime's out of control in this area," he added.

Anyone with information about the Strafford Road stabbing is asked to call Hounslow CID on 020 8247 6160 or Crimestoppers, free and anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
