Paramedics treated a male believed to be in his 30s at about 5.25am following an incident on Chiswick High Road.
A London Ambulance Service (LAS) spokesman said: "We sent one ambulance crew, an officer and a medical team from London Air Ambulance by car to the scene.
"We treated a man reported to be in his 30s.
"He was taken as priority, escorted by a doctor from the air ambulance, to St Mary's Hospital in Paddington.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the incident could have been a possible stabbing which occurred near the Sainsbury's Local store at the east end of the high street.
A passer-by reported blood remained on the pavement hours later and the area was sealed off with police tape.
