A man who chased and stabbed a teenager at Notting Hill Carnival has been jailed for four and a half years.

Libra Charles, of Churchill Gardens Estate in Pimlico, was handed his sentence yesterday (January 15) at Isleworth Crown Court after police caught him near where he attacked an 18-year-old in Golborne Road at Carnival on the August bank holiday in 2014.

Charles and three other youths, who are yet to be identified and are still wanted by the police, chased the teenager as he tried to escape by running into a shop.

He was not able to get into the shop so the group then hit him on the head with a bottle, dragged him across the street and kicked and stabbed him six times in his arm and once in his thigh.

All four in the group ran off but Charles was detained by a police officer nearby.

The victim has luckily now made a full recovery.

Charles pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent, and possession of an offensive weapon on Decmeber 2, 2014.

DC Ryan Wilkinson, of the Notting Hill Carnival post investigations team, said: “This was a violent crime in which a young man was stabbed seven times and beaten on the head with a bottle, causing serious injuries.

“Our investigation to identify and arrest the outstanding attackers continues and I would appeal to anybody who has information about this incident or the perpetrators to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Met Police commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan Howe spoke shortly after Carnival about his worry over the increased number of stabbings .
