The man was brought out of the 11th floor flat by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to the flat fire on Fleming Road, Southall in the early hours of this morning.

Half of the flat was damaged by the blaze.

A spokesman from the London Fire Brigade said: "The Brigade was called at 0108 and the fire was under control at 0302. Fire crews from Southall, Ealing, Northolt and Heston fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation."
