A MAN accused of a murder committed in 1996 has denied the charge, and will go on trial next September.

Kiranjit Uppal, of no fixed address, is accused of killing Harminder Singh Jhaghra in North Hyde Road, Hayes, during an altercation in North Hyde Road, Hayes, on February 7 1996.

The 36-year-old, arrested in September on a plane arriving at Heathrow from India, went before an Old Bailey judge this morning (Thursday), and denied murder and GBH.

The trial has been scheduled to start on September 1 2014, and is estimated to last for four weeks.

Mr Jhaghra, who was 28 and lived in Southall, died from a stab wound to arm, which severed an artery.
