A man jailed for growing more than 200 cannabis plants in a house faces deportation when he his released.

Hieu Nguyen, 47, of Evelyn Avenue, Kingsbury, admitted production of cannabis and illegally abstracting electricity.

He was caught after a raid on his house by Welsh Harp neighbourhoods policing team following a tip-off from the public.

Officers executed a drugs warrant at the address on Tuesday, December 3, and discovered a cannabis factory, with 200 plants filling up four rooms. Nguyen was arrested, charged and pleaded guilty to both offences.

At Harrow Crown Court on Tuesday last week, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison. He is liable to face deportation to Vietnam once he has served his sentence.

PC Roisin Daly was in charge of the search of his home. She said after the court case: “We seized over 200 cannabis plants from the execution of this warrant, many of which were at an advanced stage of growth. We would like to take this opportunity to thank local residents regarding this matter and also to advise landlords to remain vigilant, as it is common for rental properties to be used for this type of crime.”

Sergeant John Lawrence, of the Welsh Harp safer neighbourhoods team, said: “Information from the public is always instrumental in helping to detect offences of this type. We are grateful to the public for their support.”
