A 32-year-old man has admitted to shining a laser at a police helicopter as it flew over Harrow.

Sanjay Thaker, of Winchester Road, Harrow, pleaded guilty to causing danger to an aircraft at Hendon Magistrates Court.

The incident took place in Septemeber when, at 2.30am, he shone a green laser at a Metropolitan Police helicopter while on his roof.

The pilot reported the disturbance, and police officers were directed to his home and arrested Thaker, seizing a laser from the address.

Thaker made a 'full and frank' confession that he had been on the roof of his home when he wanted to test his laser device.

Acting Police Sergeant Jamie Kay said: "Laser attacks on aircraft not only endanger aircraft but also endanger lives.

"We are committed to working with our colleagues at the Air Support Unit to arrest and prosecute anyone targeting aircraft with lasers."

He will be sentenced in January after pleading guilty on Thursday last week.
