A man has admitted beating MP George Galloway in Notting Hill but has denied it was religiously aggravated.

Neil Masterson, of Campden Hill, Kensington, originally denied the religiously aggravated common assault of the politician at Hammersmith Magistrates’ court on September 1 but changed his plea today at Isleworth Crown Court.

The Respect MP was posing for photographs in Golborne Road on the evening of August 29 when a man attacked him, breaking his jaw, a rib and causing severe bruising to his face and head.

Mr Masterson, 39, also admitted today to assaulting another man, Mostafa Maarouf, at the same time.

He has been remanded in custody to stand trial on November 10.
