We are all looking forward to indulging during the next few days but as we wait to find out what gifts will be waiting for us under the tree, there are people whose must-have this Christmas is far more vital, it is blood.

So after the partying, eating and crashing out on the sofa, take some time to visit Winston Churchill Hall in Pinn Way, Ruislip on December 29 and make a donation that could save someones life.

NHS Blood and Transplant is calling for people to step forward so patients whose lives depend on blood transfusions get what they need.

November through to the New Year is typically a challenging time for blood stocks with hospitals in England and North Wales needing up to half a million units of blood.

A unit of blood has a shelf life of 35 days. Christmas shopping, the party season and the general rush of the holiday means taking the time to donate can slip off people’s to-do list, putting pressure on blood stocks.

If you are 17 and over and in general good health, visit www.blood.co.uk or call 0300 123 23 23 to book an appointment.

The blood donor session at Winston Churchill Hall in Ruislip on Sunday, December 29 runs from 9.30am - 12.30pm and from 2pm - 3.30pm. You can turn up on the day if you don't have an appointment.
