From speed restrictions and diversion routes to overnight closures and roadworks, the M3 Smart Motorway scheme has been the root of frustration among motorists since February 2015.

However the end is nearly in sight, as Highways England has confirmed to getwestlondon that employees continue to work hard to complete the work "by the end of June".

While the main construction is still expected to be completed on Friday night (June 30), some work is set to continue for a "short period" afterwards.

A spokesperson said: "We are working hard to complete construction on the smart motorway upgrade and full resurfacing of the M3 for the end of June.

"Testing and commissioning of the smart motorway technology will continue for a short period after that."
