Road users will have a lot to put up with over the week of Monday (September 25) to Sunday (October 1).

There will be disruption on a host of major roads including the M1, M3, M4, M23, M25 and A1.

If that all sounds like a lot to keep up with, we've put together this handy list of the roadworks and road closures.

So make sure you check before you travel and adjust your route if necessary.

M1 junction 5 Watford: joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out joint replacements will continue. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday (September 25) for three nights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4, the A41 and the M1 northbound.

Work will continue on the new Woodlands Lane Bridge, which Highways England hopes to open by winter.

  • The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4a will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 13, A30 and A327 to the M3 junction 4a.

  • The M3 junction 2 southbound link road to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 12 and return.

  • The northbound carriageway between junction 3 and 2 will be closed overnight between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday for four nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322 and A30 to the M25 junction 13.

  • The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 3 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday (September 26) for four nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 13, A30 and the A322 to the M3 junction 3.

  • The M3 junction 4a northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday (September 27). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A327 and A30 to the M3 junction 4.

  • The northbound carriageway between junction 4 and 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am, on Friday (September 29) and between 10pm and 5.30am on Sunday (October 1). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A331 and A30 to the M25 junction 13.

  • The northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 3 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am, on Saturday (September 30). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A331, A30 and the A322 to the M3 junction 3.

M4 junction 3 Hounslow: carriageway repair

Work to improve journeys by carrying out repairs to the carriageway will start. The westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Friday. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4 and return

M4 junction 4 Heathrow (Terminals 1, 2, 3) and Uxbridge: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the carriageway will start. The westbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M4 eastbound to junction 3 and return.

M23 junction 8 (M25): horticulture

Work to improve journeys by carrying out horticulture work will start. The northbound link road to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday for five nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 6 and return.

M25 junction 9 Leatherhead: signage work

Work to keep road users informed will start. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 8 and return.

M25 junction 10 (A3) Guildford: signage work

M25 junction 11 Chertsey: litter clearance/carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway resurfacing and litter clearance will start. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Wednesday for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 10 and return.

M25 junction 16 (M40) to junction 17 Maple Cross: HS2 enabling works

Work to construct new temporary slip roads continues. The clockwise carriageway will have narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day. The anti-clockwise carriageway will have reduced lanes width.

M25 junction 19 Watford: carriageway repair / inspection

Work to maintain safety by carrying out carriageway repairs and structural inspections will start. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday and from Thursday for two nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A41 northbound to the M25 junction 20.

M25 junction 23 South Mimms: electrical works

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work will start. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 24 and return.

M25 junction 21 (M1): horticulture work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out horticulture work will start. The anti-clockwise link road to the M1 northbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Thursday (September 28) for two nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 20 and return.

M25 junction 25 Enfield to junction 24 Potters Bar: carriageway repair

Work to improve journeys by carrying out repairs to the carriageway will continue. The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday for five nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A10, the A414 and the A1 to the M25 junction 23.

A1(M) junction 1, South Mimms: inspection

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structural inspections will start. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1 Borehamwood junction and return.

A1(M) junction 2 Welham Green: horticulture work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out horticulture work will start. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1001 to junction 4 and return.

A1(M) junction 5 Lemsford: horticulture work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out horticulture work will start. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Tuesday for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B197, A1000 to junction 6.

These roadworks and closures are correct according to Highways England as of Saturday (September 23) but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
