ONE person made a lucky escape when a narrow boat caught fire on the Grand Union Canal in Southall.

Twenty firefighters were called out at about 3am on Monday (Nov 28) to the blaze, which happened at the stretch of the canal close to Tentelow Lane.

A spokesman for London Fire Service said: “The boat was gutted in the blaze and one person escaped before firefighters arrived.

“The brigade was called at 3am and the fire was under control by 5.31am. Firefighters from Southall, Hayes and Heathrow fire stations were at the incident. The cause is under investigation.”

No ambulance was needed.
