A self-employed builder got a welcome surprise when he found out he had won a brand new luxury car – with £10,000 in the boot.

Satwinder Johar said he was in 'dreamland' when he was handed the keys to a silver Mercedes AMG SLS worth £165,000 in an unannounced visit to his home in Hayes yesterday (Tuesday, January 13).

The 23-year-old had paid £11 to enter a Dream Car draw, held by competition firm Best of the Best at the Westfield shopping centre in White City.

On seeing what he had won, the shocked father-of-one said: “Oh my goodness, this is unreal! I can’t believe it. Thank you so much. I love this car!"

He added: "I really don’t know what to say. I always hoped I would win, but this is an incredible feeling.”

His wife, Manpreet, 23, cried when he told her the good news over the phone, saying: “Are you lying? No way. Don't lie!”

And within hours of his win, Mr Johar was inundated with calls from friends and family all over the world offering their congratulations.

He said: "It took a long time to sink in but the more I talked about it, the more it became real. I had calls from India and Australia and across the UK and everyone is so happy for me.”

Father-of-one Mr Johar said he planned to save most of the money, but was considering spending some of it on a well-deserved holiday later this year.

Up until now he had driven a Vauxhall Astra. The car he actually won was a £95,000 AMG GT, but none are available in the UK yet, so yesterday he was presented with the older model instead.

Mr Johar, who had entered the competition a couple of times before without success, said afterwards: “I was very shocked. It happened so suddenly, all at once. I've never won anything before. It's a very, very good start to 2015.”
