Whitton needs good stores like a bookshop, greengrocer, fishmonger and hardware shop to name just a few.

It was the last three of these that we previously had that actually attracted my husband and I to buy a house here, just off the High Street, less than five years ago.

Sadly, due to the vast increase in rates and rents, these shops could not keep going and had to close down as have quite a few more that opened up and sank within a short space of time, thereby making parts of the High Street look like a ghost town.

Unless the town centre manager can influence Richmond Council to lower the rates and rents and give financial support, I cannot see much change taking place.

Visions are a good thing to have, but they need putting into practice.
