FRAUDSTERS posing as lottery winners conned a man out of £14,000.

The 64-year-old victim was initially invited to buy a winning lottery ticket off a woman who claimed she was unable to collect her winnings because she was an illegal immigrant.

When he ignored this approach, the tricksters offered to sell him a Mercedes car and he handed over £14,000, only for them to drive off with the money.

Police today warned people to be on the lookout for scams like this one, which happened outside the post office in Brabazon Road, Heston, on October 25.

Detective Constable Iqbal Meah, of Hounslow CID, said: "These two fraudsters appear to be targeting elderly people and preying on their vulnerability and trust.

"Members of the public should be vigilant regarding people approaching them claiming they have a winning a lottery ticket or offering to sell them cars, laptops or other high value items. If you are approached by anyone using these methods call 999 immediately."

The man was first approached outside the post office at about 1.45pm by an Asian woman claiming to have a winning lottery ticket.

She asked if he knew where Bhutan Solicitors was but he ignored her and when an Asian man suggested they should help by buying the ticket from her, he also ignored that approach.

However, the pair then persuaded him to to buy a Mercedes vehicle. They drove him in a Black Lexus to Montague Road, Hounslow, where they waited as he withdrew £14,000 from his bank.

He handed over the money but the woman then claimed to be feeling sick and asked him to get her some medication from a pharmacy in Lampton Road. When he returned, they had vanished.

The woman is described as being 5ft3 and in her 30s. She was wearing a long skirt and a dark sweatshirt. The man is described as 5ft6 and in his late 30s. He was clean-shaven and wearing a white shirt, a red tie and a red, patterned turban.
