A LORRY has crashed into a train bridge in South Ruislip causing two of the steel girders underneath the bridge to collapse.

The grey Volvo tipper lorry crashed into the top of the bridge on Field End Road going towards Northolt just after 3pm today.

Father-of-two, Charlie Jones, 33, of Somervell Road, South Harrow, said: "I was sitting in my front room and I heard a really loud bang. I looked out my window and I could see the bridge. One of the steel girders was hanging down from underneath the bridge and another one had fallen off.

"A builders truck crashed into the bridge coming from South Ruislip. The driver was probably a bit shook up.

"Luckily it happened just before the kids come out of school. Someone could of got killed."

Field End Road is currently closed at the junction with Somervell Road.

No Chiltern Railway trains are running from London to Birmingham until further notice.
