Transport secretary Justine Greening has been grilled by MPs over rumours that new, longer tunnels were being planned for the HS2 route from London to Birmingham.
Asked by the House of Commons Transport Committee on December 14 whether her department had considered digging further, Ms Greening said she could not confirm that but added that all aspects of the route were still being discussed.
