A popular nursery chef hung up her apron and hat after 21 years with Busy Bees.

Staff and children at the Perivale branch in Bideford Avenue threw a retirement party for Sonia Weekes, of Greenford, last Friday (14).

She was presented with a big Busy Bees cupcake saying ‘happy retirement’, an engraved brandy glass, champagne, money, chocolates and plants for her garden.

Nursery Manager Lindsey Barrett said: “21 years is a long time for the head chef; she is going to be missed by all of us.

“She has made a big impact on the nursery and everyone knows her. Parents have been stopping off throughout the week to say goodbye and thank you and Sarah Beene, the first manager at the Perivale branch, came to send her off.

“It was a hard decision for her to make but she is ready, it’s time for her to relax.”

Ms Weekes said she has been making her mind up for a long time.

She said: “My daughter is taking me to Brazil for 10 days then I will do volunteering, I won’t stay at home, and I will be out in my garden in the summer.”

Head chef of Busy Bees nursery, Perivale, Sonia Weekes, retires on February 14, 2014.

The assistant chef, Mandy Hill, has stepped up to fill the role of head and a new assistant has been employed.
