Supporters of Hong Kong’s pro-democracy protests will be gathering outside the Chinese Embassy in Marylebone this evening.

Tens of thousands of students and residents in the Special Administrative Region have come to the end of their fourth day of protests - which is also China’s 65th National Day.

With London being eight hours behind Hong Kong, the capital’s pro-democracy supporters will be carrying on the protests as they gather at 7pm today (October 1) outside the Chinese Embassy in Portland Place.

Protesters in Hong Kong want China to withdraw plans confirmed last month to vet candidates for the next leadership election in 2017.

Lester Shum, of the Hong Kong Federation of Students, in the island city, has said they will occupy government buildings if Chief Executive CY Leung does not resign by Thursday.

He added there was ‘no room for dialogue’ with Mr Leung after police fired tear gas and pepper spray at demonstrators on Sunday. Hong Kong police have since retreated and no more violence has been used by them.

Scotland Yard has confirmed there will be police present at tonight’s demonstration in Marylebone but it is thought demonstrators will remain peaceful, as they have in Hong Kong.

The protests have been led by students and Occupy Central with Love and Peace who have been called the ‘politest protestors’ thanks to the considerate nature of demonstrators who have been handing out water and food, clearing up rubbish and even recycling.

It has also been dubbed the Umbrella Revolution as demonstrators have been using umbrellas to protect themselves from the scorching sun, a torrential downpour yesterday and the tear gas on Sunday.

Nearly 3,000 on Facebook have said they are going to London's protest.
