A long-awaited project to widen the main road in and out of Brentford has been welcomed by cyclists and bus users.

After a year of work, the £1.2million scheme to improve a stretch of London Road previously beset by traffic congestion problems and littered with potholes has now been completed.

Extending from Syon Lane to Brent Lea, the TfL funded project introduced new bus and cycle lanes, while improvements have been made to pavements and kerbs.

Syon ward councillor Caroline Andrews (pictured in middle), who regularly uses her bicycle to get around, said: "It is so much better now, there were so many potholes and bumps before. It was also quite dangerous riding on the road before the changes, now It feels much safer."

Fellow ward Shirley Fisher (pictured), also a keen cyclist, added: "Getting on to the roads was quite scary before, with the new cycle lanes I feel much more confident. I have a basket on the front of my bike as well and it used to jump around because of the pot holes and sometimes I would almost lose control. The improvements look very impressive."
