TWO stranded women were dramatically rescued from freezing water after their dinghy capsized.

Crew from Chiswick RNLI lifeboat service were on their way to another incident, also involving two sailors and a dinghy when they spotted the two women clinging to their upturned hull.

It had capsized close to Chiswick Eyot on Sunday afternoon (December 11) leaving the women struggling in the freezing Thames.

The two sailors were quickly dragged to safety by the crew who brought them on board their lifeboat. A safety boat recovered the dinghy.

Helmsman Glen Monroe commented: "It was fortunate that we came across the capsized dinghy by Chiswick Eyot first, as the two women were in the water and we were able to recover them quickly."

After ensuring the women were safe the lifeboat then went on to the original call by Hammersmith Bridge.

At this incident the two sailors had got into difficulties when their dinghy got tangled with another boat.

The lifeboat crew helped untangle the boats and returned the sailors back to London Corinthian Sailing Club.

This year Chiswick lifeboat has attended 215 incidents and rescued 107 people.
