I SYMPATHISE with Valerie Grose (Letters, February 12) who had difficulty finding a parking space when attending a funeral at St Mary's Church in Ealing because of the CPZs in the area.
But the fact is that because so many people are now car owners, CPZs are an unfortunate necessity of life in many parts of London. In the specific case of St Mary's, the CPZ in the immediate area and to the north is there because Thames Valley University student cars were making life hell for local residents.
Further south, towards South Ealing station, the CPZ was introduced to stop commuters choking up the streets with their cars, then catching the Piccadilly line into town for the day.
So, don't blame the CPZs.
Removing them would make the situation far worse.
