Mike Cox has been selected to contest the Uxbridge and South Ruislip constituency for the Liberal Democrats in the general election.

Mr Cox is a former Ruislip Manor ward councillor and ex leader of the Hillingdon Liberal Democrats. In 2010 he fought in the general election for the same constituency.

He works as a chartered accountant, running his own accountancy business, having studied economics at Brunel University, and is married with four children and two grandchildren.

He said: “I am delighted to be able to represent the Liberal Democrats in Uxbridge and South Ruislip. It is an area in which I have lived since I started at Brunel University in 1977. Uxbridge and Ruislip have been my home ever since. It is where I have brought up my family and where I have been lucky enough to live and work.

“Despite our political differences I must pay tribute to our current MP, Sir John Randall, whose heart has always been in the right place. He will be a tough act to follow, no matter who it is.

“His replacement, the mayor of London, comes across as a cheerful chap who knows how to work an audience. His ability to represent the people of Uxbridge and South Ruislip with the sort of political ambitions he has leaves many of us extremely sceptical. The arrogant way he has parachuted himself into Uxbridge and South Ruislip leaves a lot to be desired.

“I look forward to fighting hard in Uxbridge and South Ruislip to show the many Lib Dems achievements while being part of the current coalition government."
