A FEW years ago, many zebra crossings in Ealing were replaced by traffic light crossings, for instance outside Smith's in Ealing Broadway and outside Northfields Tube station.
We were told at the time that this was done to improve the traffic flow!
If the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, now wants to remove the traffic lights, he must restore the zebra crossings.
Where mini-roundabouts have been installed without zebra crossings, pedestrians must now take their lives in their hands to cross the road.
Try crossing Cambridge Road at the junction with Boston Road in Hanwell.
Where a zebra crossing has been provided, as it has at Bollo Lane by Acton Town Tube station, it seems to work well.
So maybe the answer to Boris's 'insane' traffic lights is more zebra crossings.
