AT Gazette headquarters we love receiving readers' letters about the local issues that concern them most. So we are especially grateful to the pupils and staff at St Mark's Primary School in Hanwell for choosing to highlight their concerns about the lack of a safe crossing.

I AM very concerned about the lack of safety in Hanwell Broadway and wish for it to change.

The mother of a boy who used to go to our school was killed by a car here.

To try and get better experience, we did some role play as a class as either a shopkeeper, a schoolchild, a parent with young children and other people it might affect. We found that there have been quite a few accidents in the area.

Then we specifically explained what we each think should be improved. Here is what I think: * The pavements should be wider. * There should be more things for the disabled. * And last but not least, the crossing near Gold's Gym should have the cars stop at the same time.

Hopefully, you will take into consideration the points we have made. I strongly advise you to.

I AM writing to you to tell you about the safety in Hanwell Broadway and how you (the council) can improve it.

Just to let you know we were going to go to Hanwell Broadway to ask residents passing by questions we made up about how safe Hanwell Broadway actually is but sadly it started to rain heavily and if we went out we would catch a cold. So instead we swapped classes and got into characters. I was a pregnant lady, a boy I worked with was pretending to be an old man. I asked him my questions and he asked me questions.

My ideas for improvements are: more speed bumps, safer crossings and wider pavements.

DURING December last year our class went to Sainsbury's. On the way there our class thought the road was quite dangerous. Out teacher stepped in the middle of the road to keep us safe.

On January 6, we went to the other class and pretended to be people in Hanwell Broadway and we found out that the road was very unsafe by the Hanwell town clock and Gold's Gym. It needs to be made safe for the disabled, old people, mothers with pushchairs, pregnant ladies and schoolchildren like ourselves.

We need proper crossings in Hanwell.

I AM writing this letter because I strongly feel that Hanwell Broadway is not a very safe place for all sorts of people, from disabled men to everyday people like yourselves.

For a start, the main roads are covered in potholes, which could cause a big accident!

Also, the sides of the roads are

clogged up with parked cars, so I think that maybe you could make a car park so that cars won't park there, which will make the roads wider and easier for big cars and ambulances.

In my opinion, Hanwell Broadway is not a safe place at all! My suggestions are to build a new car park and install new zebra crossings.

I AM writing this letter to say that we are worried about the safety in disgraceful Hanwell Broadway. It is horrible. Lots of people have been injured or killed.

We pretended to be people from Hanwell Broadway and got interviewed by other children.

Please can we have more zebra crossings and mini bumps?

Please change Hanwell Broadway.

CURTIS Hanwell

FIRSTLY I would like to say that many injuries have been caused by the disgusting roads in Hanwell. Most of these injuries are caused by thoughtless and silly drivers.

We tried to imagine what it was like to be all different people walking around Hanwell Broadway and not many people thought the roads around Hanwell Broadway were safe to cross. Lots of people complained that the crossings weren't safe for people to cross. The roads are far too dangerous for disabled people and old people to go across.

Thinking about everything that is dangerous around Hanwell Broadway, I suggest that the pavements are wider so you don't have to risk walking on the road to get past someone and also that more speed humps are added.

EVERY day I walk to school and back, crossing five roads a day.

Unfortunately, I can't see cars coming from the right or left hand side of the road, probably because of the cars in my way, but I can hear them coming.

Today I was just crossing my third road and at the same time I could not see anything coming, but I could hear a car coming from the distance. I did not cross as they might be going fast.

On January 6, we went to each other's classrooms to interview other pupils that were pretending to be people in Hanwell. I interviewed a policeman who was called PC Ibrahim. Strangely, he thought of more traffic lights.

I thought of roundabouts where there are lots of traffic lights around, no junction boxes in them because if you get police cars, fire engine trucks and ambulances going round a roundabout, they will slow everything down and might even cause accidents.

My opinion is that there should be more roundabouts instead of lights, which don't have junction boxes.

WE did a role play pretending my class were either a female or male shopkeeper, schoolchild, teenager, female or male at work, pregnant woman, disabled person, parent with

lots of children, old person, young person, motorist or a cyclist.

In my class we specifically explained what we think could improve in Hanwell Broadway and interviewed the other classes, asking them safety questions.

After listening to roughly 40 school students' evidence, I think there should be more speed bumps and cameras so that people will definitely get spotted if they go over speed.

We have also gathered together reasons for a serious problem that happened in Hanwell Broadway. The mother of a boy in St Mark's was killed on the main road. So I strongly think that there should also be more crossings and a lower speed limit.

I HAVE seen lots of accidents in the past and it is very devastating.

Hanwell is not safe at all, I am very concerned.

On January 6, we pretended to be characters in Hanwell. I interviewed a schoolchild who was 10 years of age. Her name was Lucy. I asked her some questions about the safety in Hanwell.

I asked her: "Do you feel safe when crossing the roads in Hanwell?" She replied: "Yes, but the main roads are extremely dangerous for people with buggies and disabled people."

Then, at the end of my interview, I asked her: "What mark would you give out of 10 for the safety in Hanwell?" She said: "Five out of 10 because the roads are disgracefully dangerous."

For improvements, I would like more zebra crossings and more speed bumps.

ME and my class are very worried about children, old people and more crossing roads because the roads aren't safe.

My ideas for a bit of improvement in Hanwell Broadway are speed bumps, security cameras and more crossings such as pelican and zebra crossings. Some of the things I want to happen are cars going slower, safer crossings and maybe a happier place.

I AM writing this letter because I'm really upset with the safety in Hanwell Broadway. Looking left and right on the road, me and my mum try to cross the road, but a car always zooms past. Hopefully you would understand and listen to my letter and make some changes around here.

Think about the situation. Me and my class imagined ourselves as people going/coming to Hanwell Broadway. We all interviewed each other and got some answers about the safety of Hanwell.

Before you make any changes, I would like to say a few ideas of my own: * Make more zebra crossings for people to cross safely. * Make the traffic lights longer for people to cross. * Do you know the pavement by the flower shop? Well, that pavement needs to be wider.
