Hounslow's history society returns to the new season with a talk on the battle of Brentford and the stand-off at Turnham Green, next week.

Howard Simmons, a Hounslow heritage guide, will take people on a journey back in time to the Hounslow area during the 17th century British civil wars, where some 40,000 royalist and parliamentary soldiers confronted each other.

During the talk which will include illustrations Mr Simmons will cover the attack on Syon House, burning and looting in Brentford and how King Charles' attempt to go through Hounslow to reach London was prevented by battles in the borough.

Hounslow and District History Society lecture will be held at the United Reformed Church Hall, Chapel Road, Hounslow on Tuesday, September 30, at 7.45pm.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Entry is £2 for non-members.
