SPENDING for the next financial year and the sale of a former library building were approved by Brent Council’s executive on Tuesday.

Members approved the 2013/14 budget, which will now go before the full council on Monday, February 25.

The budget includes a council tax freeze for the next two years and spending cuts in several departments.

The sale of the Tokyngton Library building in Monks Park – which was one of six libraries closed by the council in 2011 – was also approved.

The leader of the council, Muhammed Butt, left the meeting while this was discussed, as he declared an interest in the sale to the Islamic Cultural Centre. Mr Butt was previously a trustee of the centre.

The centre is located in Harrow Road and affiliated with the Monks Park Masjid.

Also approved at the meeting was a control order which will limit dog walkers to four dogs per person in parks and other enclosed public spaces.
