Mr Farnden, who works at Heathrow and was brought up in Isleworth, said: “It was absolutely a surprise as it was my first ever tournament. I knew I was playing well but you always have to have a bit of luck.

“I am really looking forward to Vegas but I guess it will hit me more nearer the time.”

The tournament was held in more than 1,000 venues over the UK and 145,000 players have participated in it since it was launched in 2007, making it the UK’s largest live pub poker league.

Martin Green, managing director of Redtooth Poker, said: “This is the first time we’ll be taking 100 of the UK’s best pub poker players to Las Vegas as part of the national league.

“Well done to those who have already secured their place and we look forward to more exciting competitions across the country over the coming months to determine the remaining group of players. Vegas 100 is the tournament to compete in.”
