KING Street will be closed to drivers this weekend (13-14) and next weekend to allow for major building works to happen to the Lyric Theatre.

The street will be closed between Hammersmith Broadway and Leamore Street for a crane to be put onto the top of the building so construction can start on improvement works to the theatre.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council have taken the chance to carry out road improvements between TK Maxx and Leamore Street, while Thames Water will repair defects in the same stretch of road.

The Council has claimed they are saving people 20 days worth of disruptions by doing this, rather than having to close the road at a later date for further works.

Closures will happen from 6am to 10pm on both days, on both weekends, and drivers will have to use a diversion down Shepherds Bush Road, Goldhawk Road, Paddenswick Road and Dalling Road, leading back onto King Street. Pedestrians will have access at all times.
