AN OCCULT-obsessed killer has been given a life sentence for the horrific murder of a pensioner, just months after he was released from prison.

Aspiring horror writer Mohammed Khaleel, 38, must serve at least 33 years after repeatedly stabbing 67-year-old Michael Zubrot in the neck in Perivale last August.

Khaleel, of Corfton Road, Ealing, had been jailed at the Old Bailey for killing his best friend David Sheehan, 35, in a similar manner. He had been out of jail for just over four months before he killed again.

The motive for the second killing remains a mystery.

Judge George Bathurst-Norman told Khaleel the 2002 killing of Mr Sheehan was “one of the most savage attacks that I have ever seen in the courts in 40 years at the bar.”

Khaleel, who was obsessed with vampires and black magic, met Mr Sheehan in church and they moved in together in a block of flats in Boston Road, Hanwell.

Mr Sheehan was stabbed more than 50 times before his jugular vein was slashed with a 10 inch kitchen knife. Khaleel left a blood-spattered Holy Bible on the victim’s table.

He was cleared of murdering Mr Sheehan after jurors heard the victim had provoked him prior to the killing. Khaleel was jailed for eight years in November 2003.

He was released in April 2008 but then arrested for an unspecified offence and recalled to prison just six weeks later, serving a further sentence before being released again in April last year.

Khaleel and Mr Zubrot had known each other for four months and would often meet at Ealing’s Walpole Park.

The killer, who was released from prison on April 23 last year, had been living in a nearby probation hostel.

Duncan Penny, prosecuting, said: “On the evening of August 30 the convicted killer Mohammed Khaleel had killed again.

“Again, he had cut the throat of his victim. Again, his victim had been left to bleed to death in the victim’s own home.

“Quite what the reason for his lethal attack upon Michael Zubrot was, only he knows.

The two men were filmed on CCTV as they took a 297 bus from Ealing Broadway - which stops close to Mr Zubrot’s flat in Buckingham Avenue at around 8pm.

After murdering his victim Khaleel returned to his hostel, where security cameras showed him changing clothes and putting on laundry.

Nine days later, the decomposing body of Mr Zubrot was found in his home.

Mr Zubrot, who the court heard was openly gay, had been making arrangements to visit a friend, Catherine Bush, in the West Country.

A postmortem revealed he had suffered multiple stab wounds to his neck and upper back, severing his jugular and piercing through his spine.

Khaleel denied murder but was convicted by a jury on Monday.
