A SAPPHIRE ring similar to the one used for next year's Royal wedding has proved to be massive hit at a Southall jewellers.

Ramesh Jewellers in High Street is virtually sold out after Prince William gave a sapphire ring, which had belonged to his mother Princess Diana, to his fiancee Kate Middleton.

The family-run store, which has been in Southall since 1969, has sold nearly 40 rings in the last couple of weeks.

Sanjay Ramesh, who co-managers the store said: “We call it the Lady Diana Ring and we've been selling quite a lot recently, somewhere between 30 and 40. The ring costs about £1,100. It's been really good to see so many people buying the ring. I think a lot of people were inspired by Prince William using the ring in memory of Princess Diana.”

Sales of the year will top what has already been a good year for the shop, as it was also featured in a recent episode of reality TV show The Apprentice.

Mr Ramesh said: “One of the teams on the show got in contact with us as they were trying to get hold a gold headpiece, like a tiara.
“It was a really good experience being involved with The Apprentice and it was great to see our name in lights on the television.”
