A TEENAGER who gives up his weekends to help disabled youngsters was among more than 80 youths honoured at an award ceremony last Friday (December 2).

Scott Cole regularly spends Saturdays and school holidays lending a hand at club sessions or on trips for youngsters with disabilities.

The 14-year-old, of Feltham, helps with everything from swimming lessons to feeding and cleaning up and is very popular with the youngsters.

He was one of nine winners, picking up the ‘health’ award, at Hounslow Council’s seventh annual Youth Achievement Awards, for which more than 80 youths from across the borough were nominated.

Levi Martin picked up the ‘personal achievement’ gong at last Friday’s event, held at St Marks Catholic School, in Hounslow.

A few months ago the 16-year-old, also of Feltham, was not in education and suffered from low esteem after experiencing attacks.

However, he turned his life around and has just completed a three-month Princes Trust Team Programme at South Thames College, gaining work experience, training and qualifications.

Youngsters were nominated for the awards, run in partnership with local businesses and charities, by the council’s early intervention service.

All nominees were given certificates and the nine category winners each received a trophy and vouchers on the night, which included performance by local dance and drama groups.
