A jury has not been able to reach a verdict in the case of a GP from Pinner who was accused of causing death by dangerous driving.

Doctor Mohammed Hussain, 63, of Starlings Close, was behind the wheel of a silver Ford Fiesta that swerved onto the pavement in Park Avenue, Willesden, on August 20 2007 and hit Sasha Mason, a two-month-old being pushed in a pram by his mother. The tot later died of his injuries in hospital.

The defendant had been standing trial this week at Harrow Crown Court accused of causing death by dangerous driving, a charge he denied.

Dr Hussain blamed the fatal crash on a mechanical problem with the car, which he had been loaned five days before the incident, although prosecutors said the vehicle was examined by a police specialist and was found to be fault-free.

The case has been adjourned into Monday, March 5, when the prosecutors will decide if they wish to ask for a retrial.
