Jurors have retired to consider whether a GP from Pinner is guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.

Doctor Mohammed Hussain, 63, of Starlings Close, was behind the wheel of a silver Ford Fiesta that swerved onto the pavement in Park Avenue, Willesden, on August 20 2007 and hit Sasha Mason, a two-month-old being pushed in a pram by his mother. The tot later died of his injuries in hospital.

The defendant has been standing trial this week at Harrow Crown Court accused of causing death by dangerous driving, a charge he denies.

Dr Hussain blames the fatal crash on a mechanical problem with the car, which he had been loaned by five days before the incident, although prosecutors say the vehicle was examined by a police specialist and was found to be fault-free.

The case continues.
