A paedophile who once taught Harrow-born music star Kate Nash has been jailed for 18 months.

Derek Berditch had his Pinner home raided in February and was charged with possessing 17 video clips featuring indecent images of a child, 58,770 paedophilic photos including ‘extreme pornographic’ images and having an intent to distribute them to others.

The 58-year-old music teacher, who once lived in Pinner, but is now registered to an address in Birmingham, was sentenced after pleading guilty to 11 counts at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday last week.

He taught Miss Nash while teaching at St Joan of Arc Catholic School in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire.

Speaking of her early musical influences in an interview with the Watford Observer last year, she said: “There was a very enthusiastic music teacher, Derek Berditch, at St Joan of Arc Catholic School.

“He just loved music.

“I remember lessons where he would ask if we had heard or seen something and if we said no he would scrap the lesson plan and we would watch Cabaret or listen to an album.

“He was a super music fan and encouraged us to join the choir and learn an instrument.”

Mr Berditch was served a 10-year sexual offences prevention order and the images have been forfeited and destroyed by police officers.
