Two prolific burglars who tied up and threatened a 71-year-old woman and her son with a stun gun have been jailed.

The men were sentenced to 26 years in prison for a string of offences including the aggravated burglary and attempting to run over a police officer.

David Augustine, 36, of Cromwell Road, Hayes was jailed for 15 years and Krishna Modely, 27 of Lyndhurst Way, Chertsey for 11 years at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday, September 5.

The court heard how at just after 10pm on Tuesday, February 11, Augustine and Modely entered a home in Lower Cippenham Lane, Slough, where a 71-year-old woman and her 53-year-old son were living.

During the horrific burglary the woman was grabbed from behind, pushed into her bedroom and her jewellery was forcefully removed.

Her son was threatened with a stun gun.

Both victims had their hands and feet tied together and their faces covered with a pillow.

An Audi A6, Asian gold valuing £15,000, £7,200 in cash and a number of electrical items were stolen.

Despite neither victims being able to identify the suspects due to shock, an investigation by Hillingdon Crime Squad successfully linked Augustine and Modely to the scene.

Krishna Modely, 27 of Lyndhurst Way, Chertsey, was jailed for 11 years

Augustine received ten years for the aggravated burglary, three years for attempted GBH of a police officer, one year for a burglary at Fern Lane, Hounslow and and one year for a burglary at Silverdale Close in Northolt.

A sentence of one year for a burglary in Brentvale Avenue, Southall, six months for making off without payment from a BP garage in Greenford and four months for driving whilst disqualified, will be served during his 15 years in jail.

Augustine has also been disqualified from driving for ten years.

Modely was also jailed for ten years for his part in the aggravated burglary, one year for a burglary at Fern Lane in Hounslow and one year, to be served at the same time, for making off without payment from the BP garage in Greenford.

Detective Constable Emma Butcher from Hillingdon Crime Squad, said: “The elderly mother and her son are still coming to terms with their terrifying ordeal. I hope that with this sentence, they find some comfort and can go on to live their lives without fear.

“Fortunately these incidents are very rare and hopefully the two dangerous individuals will reflect on how their actions have had a traumatic and long lasting effect on all those involved”

A day after the burglary, on Wednesday, February 12, Augustine was spotted driving the stolen car in Wood End, Hayes, by a police officer, he mounted the curb and drove at the officer who had to dive out of the way to avoid getting hit.

He was again seen driving the stolen Audi A6 on February 20 - now with false number plates - and was arrested, along with two other men who assisted him during the burglary in Southall.

Modely was arrested during a police search of his home on February 26.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Turner, said: “An excellent investigation was conducted by a number of officers from Hillingdon Crime Squad.

“The victims were so terrified that they were unable to identify which of the suspects did what, however with hours of painstaking investigation the officers managed to evidence Augustine and Modely at the scene.

“These significant sentences would not have been possible without the hard work of these officers and the bravery of the victims.”

A third man, Craig Sadler, 31 of Tudor Road, Hayes, was arrested in February and charged with aggravated burglary but following the trial he was found not guilty.

Two other men who assisted Augustine during the burglary in Brentvale Avenue in Southall will be sentenced on Tuesday, October 2. They admitted the charge at an earlier hearing on Wednesday, 21 May.
