TWO children's playgrounds have been given a makeover thanks to nearly half a million pounds of Lotto cash.

Families have been enjoying revamped facilities at Grange Farm Close, South Harrow, and Roxeth Recreation Ground, off Eastcote Road, South Harrow.

Keith Jones, of Grange Farm Close, said: " It's a pretty good playground.

"I have never seen so many kids so happy.

"But it was seven years overdue. The original was actually removed by the council bit by bit because there were sinkholes underneath the playground."

New swings, slides and roundabouts have been promised to create 'adventure trials' at Canons Park, Canons Drive, Stanmore, and Headstone Manor Recreation Ground, Pinner View, Harrow.

The money for these developments came from Harrow Council's £456,075 grant from the Big Lottery Fund in July last year. It was reserved for community projects that must provide free, unrestricted access to whatever service they offer.

Harrow Mencap received a sum to start a Saturday activity club for disabled children.

Kids Can Achieve, the Pinnerbased charity for children with social, emotional and psychological difficulties, got a grant for an after-school club.
