A 'happy and healthy' mother killed her two young children before taking her own life, an inquest heard today.

Part-time post office worker, Jeyavani Vageswaran, 33, her five year-old son Anopan and her seven month-old baby, Nathaban were all found dead at their home in Woodgrange Close, Harrow in January this year.

North London Coroners Court heard on Thursday, October 9 that Jeyavani drugged her two children with alcohol and then suffocated them before drinking alcohol herself- something her husband says she never did -and then taking her own life by hanging herself.

Coroner Andrew Walker read out a statement by Jeyavani's husband-an administrator worker-who found his three family members all dead when he returned home from work on January 9.

It said: "My wife was happy and healthy, she changed a bit after her father died and our son had slight autism. She bottled up emotions but did not suffer from post natal depression. She was a good mother and loved both of our children."

The court heard when Mr Vageswaran came home to find his family dead, he shook his wife and son to see if they were still alive.

Police found a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey in the flat which is believed to have been given to the children and drunk by Jeyavani, who was still on maternity leave at the time.

Mr Walker added from Mr Vageswaran's statement: "I could not believe what had happened, she never drank alcohol because she didn't like it. I had no idea she was capable of suicide I cannot believe she killed our babies. It has completely shattered my life."

The bodies of Anopan and Nathaban were discovered at 5.20pm alongside the body of their mother Jeyavani, all three were pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

Post-mortem examinations conducted on the youngsters' bodies gave the cause of death as suffocation and a post-mortem examination on the mother's body gave the cause of death as compression of the neck, by hanging.

The coroner concluded: "From the statements from the police it is clear that there was no evidence of forced entry or third party involvement. There was a knife blade found by the police, this was thought to have been used to make cuts on Jeyavani's ankles and wrists. Jeyavani put an end to her own life while she was conscious and no other persons were involved in her death.

"Anopan was unlawfully killed alongside his brother Nathaban. I would like to give my deepest sympathy at this time to the family."
