As colourful parades and flag-waving ceremonies marked Independence Day in India, more modest celebrations were taking place more than 4,000 miles away in Heston.
The Retired Members' Association (Asian Elders) of Heston gathered at the Heston & District Community Association hall, in Vicarage Farm Road, last Friday (August 15) to mark the anniversary.
The group's general secretary Kashmir Bhatti said: "65 members gathered for the celebration. They all enjoyed their feast of traditional food and entertainment of patriotic songs, sung by members."
Last Friday marked the 67th anniversary of India's independence from British rule. Pakistan Independence Day, which the group also observed, is celebrated a day earlier, on August 14.
In Delhi, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi gave a speech at the Red Fort, where India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru had raised the country's flag on August 15, 1947.
