TONS of imported sand transformed the South Acton estate into the seaside for a day for the area’s biggest – and only – beach party.

The theme for this year’s South Acton Festival gave families a chance to throw their cares to the wind as children rushed to make castles with buckets and spades, bounced on the trampoline and ‘surfed’ on the water slide.

The party, complete with the head-in-the-hole picture opportunity and seaside arts, was rounded off with The Hokey Cokey by everyone around the entire estate.

There was live music by the Acton Music Collective, sing-a-longs and dressing up, while Intermate Connections played a diverse set of house, soul, reggae, pop and more.

Visitors also enjoyed a selection of food from around the world, from a sizzling jerk chicken barbecue to tasty Somali cuisine and quaint sandwiches, as well as ice creams.

Rachel Pepper, project manager for Acton Community Forum, which organised the event, said: “We had a great day. Once the sand arrived the kids were in like a shot. We thought it would be a great idea, especially for those who don’t manage to get to the seaside, to bring it to them. The highlight was The Hokey Cokey with everyone joining in, dancing round the playground and the whole estate.

“It brought everyone together, which was just what we wanted.”
