Harrow Council intends to use £1.28million awarded by the Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund to revamp Lowlands Recreation Ground in Lowlands Road, Harrow, which lies behind Harrow-on-the-Hill Tube Station.

The Independent Labour-run authority released photographs of the 3D model of architecture firms Adams and Sutherland’s and Assemble’s plans this week to show how well the project is progressing.

Harrow Council leader Councillor Thaya Idaikkadar (Independent Labour) said: “A lot of hard work has gone into the Lowlands Recreation Ground regeneration project and I’m delighted with the final design plans which will be considered by our planning committee in July.

“The project will bring a whole new dimension to the shopping experience on offer in Harrow Town Centre.

“It should attract more shoppers to the area which can only be good for the local economy.

“Supporting our town centre, local district shopping centres, and local businesses is a key priority for the council.

“The borough’s future is dependent on the success of the local economy.

“This regeneration project is one of a number of projects we have in place to ensure local businesses continue to go from strength-to-strength.”

The proposals include:

n a combined covered outdoor stage and rehearsal space, cafe and toilets building

n a play area including steps, slide and a water element

n new paths

n new landscaping such as planting, trees and a levelled central grassed area

n preservation of existing trees and plants

n extension of park and new crossings

The flattening of the centre of the turf will allow it to host a series of public events which may include village fetes, temporary ice rinks and marquees.

Harrow Council submitted a planning application for the works to itself on Monday.

If approved by the planning commitee, construction will begin this month so the park can re-open at the end of August.
