I HAD exactly the same problem with my Community Service Card (Community card cost me Freedom, Letters, February 3).

When placed in the same wallet as my precious Freedom Card, it electronically wiped the latter, rendering it useless and causing me a great deal of inconvenience.

It should come as no surprise that the council 'jobsworth' who thought up the scatterbrained idea of a community card for residents would not have been able to get it right.

I was refused entry to the New Years Green Lane rubbish tip, having left my card in my wallet at home, as was the chap in the next car.

His crime was that he lived a mile down the road in Denham and was not entitled to use the tip on the way to work because it belonged to Hillingdon.

What if our neighbouring councils brought in the same discriminating schemes? How much more inconvenience would that cause the Queen's subjects?

I don't know how much of our money has been wasted on replacing parking meters that accept these community cards - it must be a considerable amount. But then again, that's what they do, these servants of the community.

Anything constructive like minimising time spent on roadworks or repairing potholes goes by the board.

Editor's note: For the purposes of consistency, the term community card or Community Service Card has been retained in this letter and the one which it cites. The reference is to the Hillingdon First card introduced by Hillingdon Council last year.
