A Paralympic tennis player, who lives in Ickenham, has been appointed an MBE from HM The Queen.

Jordanne Whiley, who became the first British woman to win a Grand Slam tournament last year, is delighted with the honour.

She told getwestlondon: “I was a bit speechless when I found out. I never ever thought that I would get an MBE, so I was quite humbled by it really.”

The 22-year-old, who is currently ranked Great British number one and world number five, has a lot going for her in future.

She said: “I've got a few tournaments lined up, and then Wimbledon will be the main focus and then going on to the US open at the end of the year.

“Everything I do now is for Rio, so it's quite a big year!”

Birmingham-born Jordanne, who moved to Ickenham in 2012, wants to retain the titles with a win at the Australian Open 2015.

She added: “The biggest highlight of my career so far was winning the Grand Slam, and now this!”
